[TN-Bird] Long-tailed Duck, etc. (Sullivan Co., TN)

Musick's Lakeside Campground (MLC)
Sullivan County, TN

Motivated by yesterday's sighting of Long-tailed Duck and Redhead, Linda
Northrop and I ventured out to Sullivan County this afternoon to try our
luck.  Both species were still present, and, as usual at MLC and OIRA,
other notable winter birds were also to be found, some in good numbers.
An hour and a half produced the following:

Common Loon (5 MLC);
Horned Grebe (2 MLC);
American Wigeon (17 OIRA);
Redhead (male at head of Osceola Island);
Ring-necked Duck (50+ OIRA);
Lesser Scaup (6 OIRA);
Bufflehead (60+ OIRA);
Long-tailed Duck (male and female MLC);
American Pipit (MLC).

Fellow Greeneville birders Jo Anne and Larry Routledge joined us at
Musick's, having just gotten back from south Texas (the lucky dogs).
Together, the four of us grooved on the Long-tailed Ducks until the cold
persuaded everyone to seek the warmth of our vehicles.

(By the way, there is no truth to the rumor that the American
Ornithologists' Union changed the name of Oldsquaw to Long-tailed Duck
to avoid the obvious but awkward politically correct alternative:
Venerable Female Native American Spouse Duck.)
