Another interesting shrike tidbit:  they kill for reasons other
than food.  Male shrikes will kill as many critters as they can
and adorn their territory with the trophies to attract a female.
`My territory if full of prey and I'm great at catching it.'

Back when the former Oilers were looking for a name my two votes
were the Tennessee Shrikes (headlines: "Shrikes butcher the Patriots")
or the Tennessee Thrashers with a mockingbird as the mascot.
