The results of a two boat survey of Little Elder Island plus fly-bys on the evening (5 p.m. til dark) of September 8 were as follows. (Participants were Lloyd, Cathy, Dale and Jeannie Swant, Don Davidson, Ruth Luckado and Jerry Ingles). 842 Cattle Egret 22 Juvenile Little Blue Heron 8 Adult Little Blue Heron 31 Great Egret 5 Double-crested Cormorant 2 Great Blue Heron 9 Black Tern 3 Forster's Tern 6 Green Heron 1 Osprey 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 8 Mallard 1 Canada Goose 1 Blue-winged Teal 9 Turkey Vulture 1 Juvenile White Ibis As with last year's survey, we postioned the boats at opposite ends of the island and maintained contact via family channel radio to avoid double counting, whether by same-bird(s) views by different boats or by departures returning. (That is, departing birds were subtracted from subsequent arrivals). No attempt was made to count swallows or blackbirds. Jerry Ingles Sewanee, TN (Franklin Country) It has been my very great fortune to find an incredibly wonderful bird. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
