The immature male Ruby-throated Hummingbird continues at our feeders. We felt
sure he was going to leave Wednesday morning because he sat on one of the
feeders for over five minutes and drank many times. We thought he was getting
some extra sugar water for a trip. But he is still here late on Thursday so we
assume he'll be around tomorrow morning.
Yellow-rumped Warblers are still delighting us as they zoom around the yard.
Wednesday we had flocks of Cedar Waxwings, American Robins, and Chipping
Sparrows. An immature White-crowned Sparrow has joined the others for the past
three days. All the birds got a scare on Wednesday as a Cooper's Hawk flew
into the yard and worked his way carefully through the bushes trying to make a
bird frightened enough to move.
