After a week of studying a sparrow hanging around my backyard brush pile,
feeders, and garden pond, I have finally gotten good looks at it's bill, sides,
back, chest, and head, and heard it singing this morning. As I had first
thought a week ago, it is a Lincoln's Sparrow, a new yard bird for me. This is
in Sumner county, off Shutes Lane from Gallatin Road.
Yesterday while doing the 100 mile Watertown bikeride from Watertown through
Wilson, Dekalb, Cannon, and Smith counties, I saw many birds. New yearbirds
were Blue-Winged Warbler, Chestnut-Sided Warbler, and Kentucky Warbler. All
three of these were on Snow Hill Road, parallel to Highway 70 going up the
ridge just before Smithville in DeKalb county. Two Greater Yellowlegs were in
Wilson county at a small pond between Watertown and the DeKalb county line,
about a mile east of Watertown on Highway 70, but were flushed by the large
group of people.
