[TN-Bird] Lewis County Orange-crowns etc., plus TOS meeting

This morning (Oct. 30 2006) at the homeplace here in western Lewis
County, the most noteworthy birds were the season's first Hermit
Thrush and two Orange-crowned Warblers, the only warblers other than
the numerous Yellow-rumpeds. Otherwise, a Sharp-shinned Hawk sailed
overhead, and sparrows seem to have reached their typical early
winter highs: a one hour stroll this morning yielded 5 Field
Sparrows, 12 Song Sparrows, 15 Swamp Sparrows, 1 Fox Sparrow, and 25
White-throated Sparrows. No Lincoln's today.

The TOS weekend in Clarksville was a great time, in the field and at
the meetings. Many thanks to all the organizers, presenters, and
leaders! It was fun to finally meet many of y'all face to face.
Both of the trips I went on (Cross Creek on Saturday, and the Paris
Landing - Pace Point expedition on Sunday) were great successes.
With six (!) species of gulls plus all those ducks, grebes, terns,
loons, pelicans, and even a scoter (as detailed by Dean Edwards in
his earlier posting) it was almost like a day at the coast. Looking
forward to more!
