Is the "Lesser" Canada Goose an expected bird here? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >> The smaller form of the nominate "canadensis", is the "interior" race and is seen around here, they are smaller and darker but probably not as small as you describe but with all the introductions by the fish and wildlife and good citizens, of anything anyone would sell, we get quite a variable mix in our flocks. We see "maxima" in the flocks along with all those between colors and sizes, down to Cackling. Unfortunately most of the large wild flocks, that we used to get in numbers here, are short stopped by the hunting areas that cater to feeding them now to our north. I have seen a few birds that I might call "parvipes" in coastal areas of Texas or what I thought might be that race but the 'interior" race here is quite variable in size and color. I'd not be surprised that "parvipes" are found mixed in with the "interior" here which can be as small as the upper range size of that race. I'll have to look more closely now at the larger Canada which I've been passing over, while looking at the smaller Cackling, due to split. Something for everyone to look for and maybe get some photos. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
