More pre-work highlights from the backyard this morning (Black Oak Ridge, west Knox Co, Tues, 7 Oct 2008). I've had good luck this year with Empids both in finding them and with them being vocal to allow ID. This morning I had a cooperative LEAST FLYCATCHER in the yard that was giving its call note and also giving good looks at the prominent, complete eyering and short primary projection. 38 species Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 2+ E Wood-Pewee, 2 LEAST FLYCATCHER, 1, heard calling and seen well E Phoebe, 1 eating pokeberries White-eyed Vireo, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 1, first of season Gray-cheeked Thrush, at least 2 Wood Thrush, 1 Tennessee Warbler, 4+ ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 1 first of season in the yard Nashville Warbler, 1 Chestnut-sided Warbler, 1, with chestnut-sides Magnolia Warbler, 4+ including the odd-plumaged bird from yesterday Black-throated Green Warbler, 2 Ovenbird, 2 Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
