[TN-Bird] Least Bittern, Maury County

Finally made my first visit to TWRA's Williamsport Public Fishing
Lakes in far northwestern Maury County today (May 26, 2009)-- an
excellent area that deserves an entire day, not just the brief drive-
by I gave it. I heard at least one (possibly 2) Least Bitterns call
from the cattail marshes around the shores of one of the smaller
lakes -- I think it was the one signed as "Heron Lake." It was late
morning and the vocalizations I heard were not the classic cuckoo-
like song, but the less obvious and more rail/frog-like calls.
Imitating the "coo-coo-coo" song myself a couple of times did trigger
one half-hearted response in kind. Given the cluster of small lakes
with abundant cattails this would seem like a possible breeding
area. Has it been documented from this spot before?
