Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
Earlier in the week, among the expected late migrating Semipalmated and
White-rumped Sandpipers, there were 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, a spiffy Stilt
Sandpiper, 2 red backed Dunlin, a Semipalmated Plover and scattered Least
Sandpipers.
When viewed closely most all of the laggards can be seen sporting remnants of
retained immature plumage; first year birds that are just not going to put
out the effort to make it to the breeding grounds.
Saturday, there are still a few Least, Semi Sands and White-rumped along
with just a single Lesser Yellowlegs. The surprise for the day was a Solitary
Sandpiper hanging with an American Coot!
Young fuzzy Black-necked Stilts are popping out everywhere while pairing,
breeding and nest building is still on going. Killdeer are hustling young about
and feigning injury along all the roads.
Good Birding !!!
