It was great to hear a Louisiana Waterthrush singing over a babbling
brook (and to see him as well) this morning. Perfect setting for
him--over a rushing stream (Bear Creek) in the best birding area on the
Oak Ridge Reservation (west end of North Boundary Greenway). (Hey, LA
waterthrushes are few and far between here in Roane County.) It was
(and still is) my first neotropical migrant of this spring (not counting
swallows or Ospreys).
I tried really hard to find another neotrop--hiked 8 miles looking
for just
one gnatcatcher, Yellow-throated Warbler, or Blue-winged Warbler in
perfect habitats for all three, but no luck. Frustrating, but I guess
you just can't rush spring.
