Shelby Farms
Mississippi River
Shelby Co, TN
Three groups of Mississippi Kites were feeding high and low today at Shelby
Farms. The largest group of 62 birds were feeding right down on top of a
scrubby field next to Walnut Grove Road, while another group of 16 fed about a
quarter mile away and 9 more were feeding over the trees along the Wolf River.
Eighty Seven in a nice number for one location in May. Their numbers have
exploded in Memphis over the years, with birds seen in all the older parts of
the city with tall trees.
Cedar Waxwings are still being seen in good numbers near the Mulberry Trees
that shook off the freeze and have ripening fruit. I saw 9 groups flying
today in my travels each having 20+ birds.
I saw may first Black Tern on the Big River Saturday with 2 more on Sunday.
Today they were traveling up river with a 30 minute count at noon reaching 31
birds, ALL in fine fettle.............
Good Birding !!!
