A trip to Kentucky Lake today yielded a few interesting birds. The field
below the maintenence buildings on the road to Pace Point (Big Sandy Unit,
NWR), is loaded with both Marsh and Sedge Wrens. No ST Sparrows or rails were
encountered. The lake is still high, the only gulls seen were RB and a few
Herrings at Paris Landing. There are loads of waders at the mouth of Big
Sandy
River (Manor Road), mostly Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets. There is a
nice gull roost there and some less common species should be appearing soon.
There is some decent shore bird habitat at Cross Creeks NWR, but the only
birds seen other than Killdeer were 2 Lesser Yellowlegs.
