KY Lake areas of Henry Co (Paris Landing, Eagle Creek, Britton Ford, Big
Sandy flats)
I spent most of the day yesterday covering the western portion of my KY
circuit.
Nothing unusual, a few new year and season birds.

Highlights at Paris Landing were an adult Lesser Black-backed and a 1st-winter
Franklin's, my FOY bird. No terns at all on the island, though Forster's
and Caspians were still around in good numbers at Eagle Creek and the mouth of
the Big Sandy. Gulls away from Paris Landing were only Ring-billed and Herring.

The real highlight were the numbers of Red-breasted Nuthatches. I checked 3
locations, and had them at all 3 with a total of 9 individuals. Only at one
location was I alerted to their presence by their calls, the other two
locations
they came into playback. Otherwise on the passerine front, decent diversity of
warblers with 9 species. Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green and Palm were far
and away the most numerous. First of season White-crowned and Lincoln's
Sparrows
were nice.

Only shorebirds were on the Big Sandy flats, except for 2 juv. Long-billed
Dowitchers at Britton Ford. The Big Sandy flats had 6 juv. Black-bellied
Plovers, a Dunlin, several Pectoral, and several birds that were just blobs in
the distance and heat waves. A nice mixed flock of dabblers was working the
area
including American Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler and Gadwall.

I spent a lot of time yesterday just photographing common birds. I will post a
number of these later today I hope.

Good Birding!!
