TN-birders, This morning's field trip to the Fort Loudon dam boat lauch area and adjoining beaver ponds in Loudon County was mostly enjoyed by about 17 birders. I say mostly because the Mooney's vehicle was broken into and Laurie lost her purse. Apparently the robbers were only interested in cash as they left a camera in the back of their vehicle alone. The Mooneys insisted that we continue on with the morning while they waited for the police to come so they could file a report. Highlights of the day included an airborne common Loon that gave us a nice fly-by look, only to circle around again and fly directly overhead only about 100 feet up. Everybody got a superb view. Other nice looks included 2 Purple Martins, a female Hooded Merganser, a Bald Eagle flyover, and an Osprey on a nest at a distance.
