[TN-Bird] Ivory-billed kin at Radnor Swamp, Nashville

4-28-05
Radnor Lake
Davidson Co.
With all this talk about the Ivory-billed, I was itching to get out to Radnor
Lake to at least see its closest kin, the Pileated. After the rain finally
stopped at 3:00, I zipped on over to the west parking lot. Walking up the road
I was immediately joined by the original swamp bird, the Prothonotary
Warbler. As I stood above the creek, a Pileated called from behind me and then
flew
by me and landed in a huge tree, hitching its way up. As it flew off I could
see all the white in its underwings, and it was easy to imagine it being on
the trailing edges instead of the leading. Maybe someday. After that magical
moment, a female Scarlet Tanager with nesting material flew into the tree right
above me and started working on her nest. This is on a low hanging branch
right over the right side of the road just past the guard rail by the creek
that
runs under the road.
