TN-Birders:
Strong tropical storm Isdore is headed into Middle
Tennessee in the next 24 hours and could
bring seldom-seen, good birds into the state
from further south and the Gulf of Mexico.
Migrants headed south are being forced down
and will be halted in the state until conditions
improve! You might find some really nice
birds out there.
Similar conditions in the 1990's brought
Black-skimmers to the Chattanooga area
for the first time since the late 1800s.
This storm development does not have
exceptionally strong winds. This
may reduce the chance of finding
many good storm-driven bird species. Most
of the tropical storm effects moving towards
the state are focused on heavy rainfall.
Nevertheless, birders all across the
Mid-South and throughout Tennessee need
to have your eyes and minds focused on
the storm-driven bird possibilities.
The watch for unusual bird species should
be focused this afternoon and just after
the heaviest part of the rainfall clears out
of your area.
West Tennessee is not expected to get
as much storm influence as Middle Tennessee
and East Tennessee. All areas will get
significant storm weather.
Here is the latest "WATCH" information from
the national weather service:
AT 3 PM CDT, LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN
ASSOCIATED WITH TROPICAL STORM
ISIDORE HAD OVERSPREAD ALL OF
MIDDLE TENNESSEE. THE CENTER OF
ISIDORE WAS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY
230 MILES SOUTH OF NEW ORLEANS
MOVING NORTH AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THIS
MOVEMENT WOULD HAVE THE STORM
MAKING LANDFALL ON THE LOUISIANA
COAST AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. THE
STORM IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE IT'S
NORTHWARD TREK ALONG A PATH FROM
NEAR JACKSON MISSISSIPPI, TO
LAWRENCEBURG TENNESSEE, THEN
INTO SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY BY 7 AM
FRIDAY. THIS PATH WOULD PLACE MIDDLE
TENNESSEE IN A FAVORABLE AREA FOR A
SIGNIFICANT RAIN EVENT WITH THE
HEAVIEST RAIN BEGINNING ON THURSDAY
AND LASTING THROUGH EARLY
FRIDAY. RAIN AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY RANGE
FROM THREE TO FIVE INCHES
WITH LOCALLY HEAVIER AMOUNTS TO
SIX INCHES. EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM
THE HEAVY RAIN WILL LIKELY CAUSE SOME
FLOODING.
PERSONS IN THE WATCH AREA ARE ADVISED
TO CHECK FLOOD PREPAREDNESS
REQUIREMENTS...KEEP INFORMED...AND BE
READY FOR QUICK ACTION IF FLOODING
THREATENS.
