FYI Saw-whet Owl banding at Seven Islands Thusday, NOV 9 Our second attempt to catch Saw-whet owls in Knox County for winter 2006-07 will be Thursday,November 9 at Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge in SE Knox County (Exit 402off US40, head south and follow the green Seven Islands signs). I will be there to set up at 5:30pm and keep the nets up for at least 6 hours. You do not have to stay the whole time. All are invited. The nets will be in the wooded areas of Seven Islands. If you park in the main parking area and walk down the paved road (Kelly Lane) until the road curves to the left, you will see (or more likely hear) our setup for catching these little owls. We caught one last week and the weather looks ideal this week (except it is a little warm). OUR AVERAGE IS ONE OWL EVERY THREE NIGHTS OF NETTING, so you may not get to see an owl on any one visit. If you don't mind these odds, I hope to see you there. Dress for the weather (very cold nights). Bring a flashlight and some food to keep you awake. We will try again soon depending on the weather. I will post any new information. Thanks, --Jim Giocomo Knoxville, TN ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL.
