[TN-Bird] Immature night-heron

Greetings,

While I was driving west on Charlotte Pike just at the Richland Creek bridge
in the Charlotte Park section of Nashville at 8:00 AM today, an immature night
heron flew smack dab in front of my car, just over the hood, and dropped down
into the creek just beyond the side ofthe bridge. Even though
yellow-crowneds have been known to nest just a few blocks away, this youngster
was bulkier,
browner and more spotted with the stouter neck and longer, thinner bill of a
black-crowned, so I am calling it a black crowned. As it crossed the car's
hood, I had an almost-too-close look at its side and had a good look at its
tail
as it prepared for landing in the creek below. Exciting look at a nice
immature heron! Came mighty close to having it as a "windshield decal"!!!!!!!!!

In the past, I have had numerous looks at black-crowneds in several locations
on Richland Creek over behind St. Thomas Hospital and at the bridge across
the little street that runs off Post Road down beside the old Hill estate and
used to hook up with Harding Road at Belle Meade Boulevard before they blocked
off the access at the Harding end.
