Greetings & happy Thanksgiving, Birders,

The immature Cooper's hawk, or possibly a different one, stopped over at my
home in the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville, Davidson County at about
3:10 P.M. today. I took a bunch of photos after it landed in a tree behind
the
deck, then flew over to the rear deck rail, then to a side deck rail and,
lastly, into an althea bush to take cover from the myriad of blue jays that
went after it. Finally, having tired of all the jays' harassment, it took off
like the "blue darter" it is growing into being and headed toward the
Cumberland River and, probably, Bell's Bend across the way. The reason I
think it
might be a different bird from the other day, is that today's bird seemed to
have a good bit more of the bluish color on its back while last week's bird
seemed much browner. This one is definitely in transition between immature
plumage and adult. Once they start to change, just how quickly do they
transform from pure immature to adult plumage? We did see one that was still
in
pure immature plumage on a Christmas count several years ago.

Cheers, prayers & blessings,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
