Hello Birders,
At long last, hummingbirds appeared at my feeder in the Charlotte Park
section of West Nashville , Davidson County, near the Cumberland River this
morning
at 10:13 AM. A female and an immature were at the feeder, and a couple of
others joined them right away thus bringing on a food fight! I haven't seen a
male yet, but I hope to have one "flash me" with its brilliant gorget soon.
A little while ago, one of the females was just outside the French doors
where I observed her checking out one of my drying Hefty Zip bags (yes, I
recycle
those for use over & over) which has a bright "hot pink" zipper & zipper
track. She flew all up and down around the "pink" area trying to detect
something
nourishing before she gave up and flew over to a red portulaca blossom which
was apparently more satisfying.
It is just grand to have them back, and I already have a couple of pretty
good photos.
Cheers, prayers & fruitful birding,
Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
