West TN and North MS
The shorebird numbers at the pits took another expected drop with just
singles of many of the species left. One pair of the Painted Buntings appear to
be
feeding young while two males continue boundary disputes. Both the Western
Kingbird and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers are setting eggs and two more broods of
Black-necked Stilts have hatched. The Western Kingbird was again seen about
a mile from last years nest location in Tunica Co, MS but I never saw any
indications of a second bird. Only one Whimbrel was seen on the Loosahatchie
Bar
on Sunday morning but not visible a couple of hours later.
I took a trip to the area around Pickwick for Bachman's Sparrow and Prairie
Warbler and found the warblers everywhere using my song finder but only had
one Bachman's singing all morning. I started to make a trip north to the area
around McKenzie for Lark Sparrow but got side tracked. I was trying to round
off my TN year list to 260 before June but had to settle at 259 and counting.
It has been a good year but a strange migration. I've still got a shot at a
few misses this fall.
Good Birding!!!
