[TN-Bird] Hiwassee CCB results

The Hiwassee CBC (Hamilton, Bradely, Miegs and Rhea Counties) was held
on January 1. Nineteen participants found a total of 85 species for the
day. This is a very low total for the count which averages 99 species.
The weather had been warm enough leading up to the date that many
species were not present in their usual numbers.

Highlights included:

- 3 Great Egrets

- 17 Fox Sparrows

- 22 Bald Eagles

- 2 Loggerhead Shrikes (any number is a good number)

Lowlights:

- Waterfowl numbers were way down. Especially Black Ducks with
47 ( usually there are hundreds)

- 10525 Sandhill Cranes - last year there where around 15000.
Most of the food was gone at the refuge and they very wide spread.

- 0 Cedar Waxwings

- 0 Barred Owls

- 5 Common Grackles

- 47 Yellow-rumped Warblers

- 2 Pine Warblers

- Very few shorebirds, no Least Sandpipers or Dunlin were
found.

I want to thank everyone who participated in this count!!
