We often get large flocks of Ring-billed Gulls flying over the house during the winter as they fly back and forth between roosting and feeding spots. This year however I haven't seen them as often as past years. Also, I haven't seen nor remember off the top of my head anyone reporting Herring Gull around Knox Co this winter. So, I was quite surprised to see a lone Herring Gull lazily flying over the house this moring (Thurs, 22 Feb 2007), heading roughly north along the ridge. Appeared to be a 2nd year bird with all black tail, pale coverts, nice brown underparts. Yardbird #148 in 5 years and 1 month. Later, an adult Ring-billed Gull and a single Canada Goose were spotted taking a similar track.
