Updates from Shane Newbold and Cynthia Rohrbach last week raise the
total number of territorial male Henslow's Sparrows (at The Farm) and
Grasshopper Sparrows (at the Lewis County Industrial Park) to at
least three of each species.
While on the Lewis County sparrow theme, some negative data. On June
14, I examined an area of large clearcuts on the western edge of the
county (south of Highway 412, just along the Perry County line) that
were close matches for what Damien Simbeck pointed me towards as good
regional Bachman's Sparrow habitat. I found no individuals of this
species in them. I'll keep looking there and in other parts of the
county.
