Sept.21-22, 2008
Shelby-Tipton-Lauderdale Co. TN
Sunday, two Peregrines were flushing Wind birds at Ensley, one small adult
and a larger immature. I've posted a photo of the adult in my 2008 album. There
is a family of adult and immature Kestrels plus Cooper's Hawks also
occasionally stirring up the mix. Early in the morning, an adult and an
immature
Harrier made short visits before disappearing on thermals over the Chucalissa
ridge. At 8:45, the 3 adult and 5 immature Black-bellied ducks flew in from
McKeller but soon left after the Peregrine came in to perch on one of the TVA
towers. The Broad-winged Hawks were late in getting up but a group of 5 soared
over Eagle Lake, 9 at the Bluffs in Tipton Co, and another 6 later at Lower
Hatchie in Lauderdale Co. So things are looking up.
Monday, at my house the birds were acting funny, hiding in the brush and the
Jays were murmuring. After, much scanning, I discovered a Broad-wing in one
of the Pecan trees and an hour later, I watched it leave to join 5 more
Broad-wings circling high overhead; the first lift off I've seen at the house.
Later, I would see two more kettles over Memphis, each with 8 or more birds.
Keep looking up................
