[TN-Bird] Great Egret, Dead Horse Lake Golf Course, Knox Co.

I visited Dead Horse Lake Golf Course (w. Knox County) between 4:50 - 5:20
PM this evening to count for the GBBC. It was also a nice way to explore
our new neighborhood. Highlight was one GREAT EGRET that flew in as I was
standing next to the lake. Lowlight was a large, dead snapping turtle (at
least 30" from nose to tail) that I saw lying belly up in a culvert between
two of the ponds.

Checklist:
Canada Goose - 6
Gadwall - 14
Mallard - 35
Northern Shoveler - 3
Ring-necked Duck - 1
Great Blue Heron - 1
Great Egret - 1
Killdeer - 2
Ring-billed Gull - 7
Eastern Bluebird - 3
Northern Mockingbird - 1
European Starling - 1
Song Sparrow - 2
House Finch - 3

After finishing at the golf course, I visited the pond outside Parkwest
Hospital just up the road. I observed the three Mute Swan reported
previously. Based on their people-friendly behavior (they swam up to meet
me before I even got out of the car), I suspect that they may be birds the
hospital purchased and released on the pond.

Mute Swan - 3
Pied-billed Grebe - 1
Mallard - 14
European Starling - 12

Both locations are off Sherril Blvd. in west Knoxville.

Good birding,
