The good news is we saw about a dozen Rough-winged Swallows on the bluff midway
down Snows Hill on Route 70 today and then a couple of Barn Swallows on the
west loop of Holmes Creek Road, both first of season for us in DeKalb County.
The bad news is on the east loop of Holmes Creek Road the bulldozers are
tearing down the trees in the spot where the Hooded and Kentucky Warblers have
been nesting these past two years. The beautiful terraced rock bluff with
spring water flowing over it and the breeding grounds at the base are now
covered with dead trees as a road is being cut through the hillside which we
surmise will soon be followed by houses. It sure was a sad sight.
