[TN-Bird] Goldfinch Invasion

TN-Birders ?
I tried sending this previously, but think I may have goofed, so I?m going
to try again.

I live in Morristown about 45 miles east of Knoxville, and I am having large
numbers of goldfinch visit my feeders this winter.

This is my fourth year as a participant of Feederwatch, and in the past, I?
ve considered myself lucky to have 20+/- goldfinch at my feeders at one
time. I had a conservative count of 60 goldfinch at my feeders or in the
adjacent trees this past Saturday and a similar number both of the previous
two weekends. I have a tube feeder filled with niger as well as three black
oil filled feeders. I also hung a niger-filled sock to help alleviate the
?waiting line? for the niger feeder. I had a large number at my feeder when
I went home for lunch today so they aren?t just ?weekend travelers?!

Has anyone else observed an increased number of goldfinch at their feeders
this winter?

I might add, that my house finch population is not as large as in past -
only 8 or 9 at one time compared to approximately 20+/- in years past. All
of my other birds are showing up in their usual numbers.
