[TN-Bird] GSMNP Bote Mountain Trail, 07/26/09

We birded the Bote Mountain Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
yesterday (Sunday, July 26) between 17:30 - 19:30.  This trail starts along
Laurel Creek Road, opposite the Schoolhouse Gap Trail.  While the trail was
almost entirely silent on the way up, we found a nice pocket of warblers and
friends at the top as it branched off into the West Prong Trail.
 

Highlights:

Red-eyed vireo

Carolina chickadee

Tufted titmouse

Red-breasted nuthatch

White-breasted nuthatch

Blue-gray gnatcatcher

Black-throated green warbler (2)

Yellow-rumped warbler

Black-and-white warbler (2+)

Scarlet tanager (female)

 

Other species on ascent/descent:

Mourning dove

Chimney swift

Red-bellied woodpecker

Downy woodpecker

American Crow

 

 A late singing Louisiana Waterthrush was heard while driving in on Little
River Road.
