I did a short hike along the Appalachian Trail between Newfound and Indian Gaps along the TN/NC border on Sat, 19 March. Nothing unusual but got several of the high-altitude specialties including a dozen or so BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEEs, Red-breasted Nuthatchs, singing Golden-crowned Kinglets, a drumming Ruffed Grouse, and lots and lots of 'Mountain' Juncos. No luck with Crossbills. On the way down, I had a Common Raven flying along the road near the Alum Bluff trailhead. Earlier in the morning I had 3 Osprey and a Bald Eagle over the TN River bridge on Pellissippi Parkway at the Knox/Blount Co line.
