[TN-Bird] GREAT WHITE HERON in Sullivan Co., TN

A friend who lives along the South Fork Holston River in Sullivan County, TN, 
called a few minutes ago to report that he and his wife observed a Great White 
Heron which has settled into a tree across the river from his home for the 
evening (8/20). 
He knew instantly that this was a very large white heron and it did not have 
black legs as in the Great Egret.  He said the bird is about .9 miles upstream 
from the Webb Bridge (old Weaver Pike Bridge area) on the south side of the 
river.

This is the first time this white Flordia form of the Great Blue Heron has been 
seen away from South Holston Lake in Northeast Tennessee.

This Florida race of the Great Blue Heron, found locally in Florida and 
especially in the Keys and the Everglades,  has been found at  South Holston 
Lake: 15-19 Oct 1990
 (Howard Langridge, Rick Knight, Brian Cross); 29-31 Aug 1991 (Wallace Coffey, 
Ken Hale and John Shumate): 25 Aug 1994 (1) (Richard Lewis) and 7 Aug 2002 
(Wallace Coffey, Chris O'Bryan and later seen with Ken Hale).
