I had 32 species and 153 individuals during the 2 hr Great Backyard Bird Count
at my house on Saturday. Highlights included 1 Red-breasted nuthatch, 1
immature Sharp-shinned hawk, 5 Rusty blackbirds (2 males & 3 females) that
stopped in for a few minutes, and a Red-headed woodpecker that was coming to
one of my sunflower seed feeders. It would grab a sunflower seed and fly to the
top of a telephone pole that was just 10 yards away and eat it. I've seen/heard
Red-headed woodpeckers in the yard before, but never had one at the
feeder...what a treat!
