Apologies for a couple of typos at the end of the previous post where I got=
carried away on the soap box.=20
Anyone wishing a complete list of birds seen on my recent Philippine trip, =
or contact info on Tim Fisher, including Nicandro Icarangal, don't hesitate=
to e-mail me.=20
Tim is quite content to set up individual trips for birders at any level of=
support they desire. Don't worry about getting into trouble by going into =
dangerous places. If you wish to go into the Abu Sayef stronghold at Tawi T=
awi in the Sundas for instance, the government simply won't let you go. If =
you insist you will have to pay the cost of a squad of Philippine Marines t=
o watch over you, which probably ensures they will frighten off all the bir=
ds before you get to them. Of course in the two days we were undergoing com=
pulsory counseling at the Good Shepard convent in Quezon City, five people =
were murdered on the street there in separate incidents that night. That's =
why I never hesitate to pay for a guide and a driver to keep us out of trou=
ble in the Third World. Our cost for two full days was under $200, and coul=
d have included up to four people. Hotel stay in the Best Western Corona (o=
ld but with some charm) was under $250 for nine days. When I left a $35 tip=
for all staff for our entire stay with the desk she protested that it was =
too much, but I insisted. It was worth all the smiles on our last day.
