Went to the Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County this morning just before
11 after reading Mike's post from yesterday. Didn't see any Fox Sparrows but
did find a western Palm Warbler at that location. After looking at the
heronry, while sitting in my car talking on my cell phone I saw at least 10
Great Blue Herons take to the sky above the heronry. An immature Bald Eagle
then flew past and the herons settled back down at their nests. Jumped out of
the car but couldn't relocate the eagle.
In the Cove I found 5 Horned Grebes (3 in breeding plumage), a few Brown Headed
Nuthatches, two Ruby Crowned Kinglets, 2 or 3 singing Pine Warblers. I had
seen 7 Horned Grebes at the Concord Park boat ramp about 2 miles east of the
Cove around 10:30.
