There are many Goldfinches (50+) coming to my black-oil sunflower seeds; I
don't have a thistle feeder.
I have at least 20 Purple Finches also, but haven't seen a Pine Siskin yet this
year.
Purple Finch numbers have been increasing the last few years, after they were
decimated by MG (along with Goldfinches and House Finches). I have not seen
one bird with MG this year.
Other regulars at sunflower feeders are Red-bellied Woodpecker and Downy
Woodpecker, in addition to the usual Cardinals, Chickadees, Nuthatches,
Titmice, House Finches and Wrens. Mourning Doves, Song Sparrows and
White-throated Sparrows clean the seeds up from the ground. Most of these
species come to the feeders year-round.
