Here's a rough estimate of our feeder frenzy on Saturday, January 17 in
Normandy Tennessee. We had an 1.5" at one time but it has now gone to below an
inch. The wind picked up with slight snow flurries quitew a bit around 4:00
p.m. The morning began with 7 degree temps..
* Goldfinches 40+
* White-throated Sparrows 30
* Juncos 6
* Red-Bellied Woodpeckers 6
* Downy Woodpeckers 4
* Mourning Doves 15
* Blue Jays 8
* Chickadees 15
* Tufted Titmice 20
* Carolina Wrens 4
* White-breasted Nuthatches 4
* Cardinals 8
Please note the following consider the feeder this year:
** We have not had yellow-bellied sapsuckers for the past two winters although
I hear them in the woods
**This year is our first to have cardinals BEFORE bad weather...usually we only
have them during adverse weather in our feeder area (surrounded by woods)
**No brown creeper this year- usually it makes its appearance by
Thanksgiving...not this year
**No purple finches...trhese usually are much more numerous at our feeders than
the house finches..
**No house finches thisyear
Thank you
