The immature BROWN PELICAN was spotted by Dan Jacobson again this morning
(July 23) on a channel marker buoy above Chickamauga Dam. The bird has been
seen off and on at this location (and on the bouys in front of the Boat
House Restaurant) since July 11. Also present were two Common Loons on
basic plumage. At least one loon has been seen above the dam since
Thursday.

A Yellow-crowned Night Heron was finally seen in Hamilton County on July 23
in the ditch between Olan Mills and Hwy 153. (Daniel Jacobson)

Three juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons were found at Standifer Gap Marsh
on July 17. A very uncommon species in Hamilton County. (David Patterson,
Charles and Dreama Dean)

Migrant songbirds have begun to move into our area. I had my first Cerulean
Warbler of the summer at the Cravens House on July 14. (Kevin Calhoon)

Jonnie Sue Lyons had a Black-throated Green Warbler at her residence on
Signal Mountain on July 12. Then a Black and White Warbler on July 14 and a
Worm-eating Warbler on July 17. All breeders in the area, but not at this
location.

A Black Tern was spotted on the Tennessee River above Nickajack dam in
Marion County on July 12. (John Henderson, Janice Chadwell). The bird was
seen from the parking lot above the dam on the south side (New Hope exit off
I-24 side).

The next general meeting of the Chattanooga TOS will be on August 11 at 7:00
