Pace Point
TN NWR - Big Sandy Unit
Henry Co. TN
I got a call earlier today from Clyde Blum and Carol Fegarido of Chattanooga,
they were at Rocky Point and had located the 2 immature Red-throated loons
and a single Pacific Loon. I directed them to go to the Point and look at the
loons on the TN River side until the loons started to move south or up river to
roost. At that time I told them to drive to the first water on the east side,
south of the point and walk out to the north point of this cove to view the
river and to gain a little elevation if possible. They found another Pacific
loon off the point and then went to the south cove. Here they shuffled through
150 loons as they came to roost. In the bunch they found the battleship sized
Yellow-billed Loon.
I'll bet there are not too many places where you can see 4 species of loons
in one afternoon;o) This area no doubt is one of the best loon spots in the
eastern US.
Good Birding!!!
