I stopped by Eastbridge Industrial Park in east Knox Co, Tn
this morning (Sat, 17 June 2006) where I had a few of the
specialties of that part of the county but missed some other
hoped-for species. Also found one bird new to that area...
at least I haven't had it there before.
For the record, to get to Eastbridge from Knoxville, take I-40
east to the Ashville Hwy / US 11-E exit. Go east on 11-E for
about 10 miles then turn north on Mine Rd. Cross the big
concrete bridge (which is shown in the backdrop on the local
WBIR news) and Eastbridge is on your right after about 2 miles.
Eastbridge Industrial Park:
BANK SWALLOW, about 20 birds, several nests in the old mine
tailings across the street, this is a traditional colony and
the only one I know of in Knox Co.
WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 1 singing male in the curve of the main
road inside Eastbridge overlooking the old Dickcissel field.
This is a new bird for me here.
Northern Bobwhite, 2 calling
Missed Grasshopper Sparrow and Dickcissel. I don't think
Dickcissel has been reported from here in almost 8-10 years now
though the field where they used to be looks good for them.
Further east in Jefferson Co. I had...
Eurasian Collared-Dove, 1, at the usual spot near the dairy
farm at intersection of US 11-E and Collins Rd in New Market.
Scarlet Tanager, 1 singing male in New Market
House Wren, strikes again, nesting in my parents' yard in
Jefferson City.
