Douglas Lake, Cocke& Jefferson counties, 8/17/07
Ten Islands & Dutch Bottoms by canoe, 5:00-7:30 PM
Lake elevation: 968'
Shorebirds now prefer the mud down river from Walters Bridge - we found only
a few in the Ten Islands area, where the bottoms are higher & drier. Better
numbers were around a mudflat about 1/4 mile around the bend from the
bridge.
Shorebirds seen:
Semipalmated plover (6)
Killdeer (140+)
Lesser yellowlegs (2)
Spotted sandpiper (3)
Least sandpiper (68)
Pectoral sandpiper (17)
Buff-breasted sandpiper
Michael Sledjeski & Leslie Gibbens
