President's Island
Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co, TN
The Mottled Duck on President's Island was relocated after 2 trips Sunday
but the Black-bellied Whistling Ducks at Ensley were not to be found. A pair
of
Eastern Kingbirds have taken over the hybrid Scissor-tail nest site on
President's Island and the female has been sitting on the nest for the past
week.
Hopefully the hybrid is just late again showing up as in previous years. The
other Scissor-tail pair have changed ends of the cross bar they used last
year and the female is now incubating full time.
Least, Semipalmated Sandpiper and White-rumps are still hanging around at
the pits in dwindling numbers plus a surprise Semipalmated Plover showed up
Sunday. The Solitary Sandpiper and Coot seen Saturday, continue to keep
company.
Young Black-necked Stilts and Killdeer abound. A healthy crop of Mallard
young but Blue-winged Teal still sitting tight, should be at least 3 nests
this
year.
Good Birding !!!
