[TN-Bird] Draft TVA Land Policy Announced

Today, at one of its periodic meetings, the Board of Directors of the
Tennessee Valley Authority released a draft of its new policy on the future
uses of TVA lands.  Those of you who sent TVA comments in recent weeks
urging that the Board adopt a policy banning or restricting the sale or
lease of TVA lands for residential, commercial, and industrial development
will be quite pleased.  The new draft policy restricts industrial, public
recreational, and commercial recreational development to areas designated
for these uses in formal TVA land use plans.  The sale or lease of TVA lands
for residential development would cease.
 

Over 75% of the ca. 900 comments that TVA recently received on this issue
were opposed to the sale of TVA lands for residential development, and the
TVA Board paid attention to these comments.

 

The draft policy is posted at
http://www.tva.gov/river/landandshore/land_policy.htm.  TVA is accepting
comments on this draft policy from October 2 through November 3.  The TVA
Board of Director's will then review these comments and adopt a final policy
at its late November meeting.  

 

The final policy that the TVA Board adopts will have a big impact on public
lands and bird habitats across the Tennessee Valley.  I urge you to send TVA
your comments on this policy.  Instructions on how to submit your comments
are on the above web site.
