[TN-Bird] Dickcissel, Baltimore Oriole, etc. (Greene Co., TN)

June 21, 2009 
Greene County: Lick Creek Bottoms Wildlife Management Area unit at intersection 
of Highway 348, North Mohawk Road, and South Mohawk Road (LCBWMA-348/MR), and 
vicinity 

Observed today-- 

Prairie Warbler (singing male, LCBWMA-348/MR) 

Summer Tanager (singing male, LCBWMA-348/MR) 

Dickcissel (singing male, Sapp Road 0.2 mile from Concord Road; this is a new 
site for the species, but the spot is located only about a mile from the 
Joachime Bible Refuge where Dickcissels have nested for many years) 

Baltimore Oriole (2, LCBWMA-348/MR; one bird was either a 1st-year male or an 
adult female (the two can look similar, and I didn't have great looks, so I 
can't say for sure), while the other was either an adult female or an immature; 
I observed the former feeding the latter; given the time of year, the 
likelihood is that the bird being fed was an immature rather than an adult; I 
found no nest; this is the first time I have observed the species on any of the 
Lick Creek Bottoms properties; Baltimore Orioles are scarce in Greene County in 
summer)
