[TN-Bird] Re: Could it have been??

Hey, Shelley.  Baltimore Oriole would be rare but certainly possible
this time of year... about like the Summer Tanager you had in your
yard a couple winters ago.  There are records for Knox County in
winter and even one or two on the Knoxville CBC but I don't know of
any lately.  They will come to orange halves, jelly, and hummingbird
feeders.  There are actually sugar-water feeders especially designed
to allow the orioles to drink more easily.  They are much more common
along the East Coast from Raleigh down towards Florida.  Some folks
over there will have a dozen or more coming all winter.

I would love to see some photos if you get the chance.

Ok, I just checked my records, there are two records of Baltimore
Oriole on the Knoxville CBC:  2 birds in 1966-67 and 1 in 1988-89.
Robinson cites at least 25 records through the late 1980s and also
mentions suet as a food source.
