While sitting on my front porch in Smyrna enjoying the last minutes of daylight
(it was 13 min after sunset), I heard a commotion and looked up just in time to
see a Cooper's Hawk, talons out, within inches of catching a mourning dove.
The birds flew over my house, so of course I ran around the house to see the
result. All I saw was a snow storm of dove body feathers coming down on my
driveway. I never saw the cooper's again, but it was clearly off to enjoy a
late night snack!

Good yard birding,
Scott Somershoe
