Waited till the drizzle stopped and returned to the Cove at Concord Park in
west Knox County, TN at 3:35 this afternoon. The 3 Common Loons I saw here
Monday were not on the water when I arrived but when I looked at approx. 4:20
one was on the water and five more quickly joined it, flying in from the east.
I watched for 10 minutes as they swam and dived their way west, finally
disappearing from view behind the vegetation. All six were resplendent in their
breeding plumage. Good numbers of Bonaparte's Gulls are still present, many
with hoods.

On Monday I commented that the small heronry across Northshore was inactive.
Not so today. Great Blue Herons were seen flying into it with nesting material
and at one point I counted 11 Great Blue Herons standing in the trees, a couple
of them standling on nests. Guess they're just getting a late start this year,
maybe because of the cold winter??
