You have reached Kevin Calhoon with the Chattanooga RBA, sponsored by the
Chattanooga Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society.
This is Update Number #4 made on February 21, 2004.
You can call the RBA at 423 -821-4381.
The WHITE-WINGED SCOTER that Judy Newsome first found on the evening of
January 30 above (north side parking lot)
Chickamauga Dam in Hamilton co. has been seen off and on ever since, with
the last sighting on February 21. (Chad Dorn) A possible immature female
BLACK SCOTER was seen in the same location above the dam on February 19.
(Chad Dorn) Neither the White-winged nor Black Scoter was there on the
evening of February 20 (Kevin Calhoon), but the white-winged and the
possible the Black (very far out and difficult to identify) were present on
February 21. (Chad Dorn)
Redheads have been present in our area in decent numbers throughout the
month. Thirty Redheads were present at the small pond (Harris and Lincoln's
Sparrow pond) on the left side of Blythe Ferry Road as you head to the old
ferry site (Meigs co.)on February 2. (David Aborn). Up to 50 Redheads have
been seen at Standifer Gap Marsh since February 2 (David Patterson, Daniel
Jacobson) and also at the Brainerd Levee (Harold Birch).
A Dunlin was observed at the pond at the horse pasture area at the Brainerd
Levee (Hamilton co.) on February 14 (Harold Birch)
Keep you eye out for the Sandhill Cranes as they migrate north. Most have
moved out of the Blythe Ferry area already.
The next general meeting of the Chattanooga TOS will be on March 11 at
7:00 PM at the Accension Luthern Church, 720 South Germantown Rd.
Get out in the Field and let me know what you see!!
