With all parties reporting, the species count for the National Migration
Count in Hamilton, co. held on May 11 is at 143.

Highlights included:

A BLACK RAIL seen at the Standifer Gap Marsh by Jeff Basham. The bird has
not been relocated despite several attempts by many people. Also at the
Standifer Gap Marsh were: 2 Least Bitterns, 1 Virginia Rail, 2 Sora and two
calling Willow Flycatchers, (do we finally have a new nesting location for
this species in Hamilton co.?). Also present was a Semi-palmated Plover and
Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper and Solitary Sandpiper. A Dunlin joined the
group of shorebirds on May 12.

A BARN OWL was found by Bonnie Johnson, Judy Newsome and Janice Chadwell on
Snow Hill Road. (For exact location call me).

Two well described FISH CROWS were seen at Chester Frost State Park, maybe
finally putting to rest the question of their presence there. (Dan Jacobson
and John Henderson)

A Gray-cheecked Thrush at the Craven's House. (Kevin Calhoon)

30 Species of warblers including a singing Golden-winged on Bakewell
Mountain and a singing male Black-throated Blue (very uncommon migrant in
Hamilton co.) at the Cravens House.

Thanks to all who helped!

Two Gray-cheeked Thrushes were seen on the Gum Springs trail just north of
the Craven's House on May 16. (Kevin Calhoon)

Two Peregrine Falcon chicks are close to fledging at the nest site on the
railroad bridge below Chickamuga Dam. (Harold Sharpe)
