[TN-Bird] Cerulean Warbler, etc. (Greene Co., TN)

July 28, 2008

Regional summer resident warblers are moving off the breeding grounds and
through lower elevations in Greene County.

Last Tuesday, July 22, I observed a Northern Parula and an American Redstart
feeding in a woodlot here in Greeneville. This morning, also in Greeneville, I
found a mixed species grouping that included a Northern Parula, at least one
Cerulean Warbler, and a Black-and-white Warbler.

Cerulean Warblers are very early migrants. The chances of finding them in fall
migation in our area are better from now until Labor Day than they are at any
other time. Of course, the chances of finding them at all are slim. Today is
only the third time that I have found fall migrant Cerulean Warblers in
northeast Tennessee in the last fifteen years.
